The United States withdrew its proposal to expand the embargo to cover all of Sudan, including controls on drones and dual-use technology, after Russia and China opposed it; Russia’s deputy UN ambassador, Anna Evstigneeva, said Moscow would not accept even a hint of a broader measure, while Sudan’s UN ambassador, Al-Harith Mohamed, argued a total embargo would conflict with the UN Charter’s guarantee of self-defence. (Sources: Al Jazeera/AFP; Sudan Tribune) Analysis: a Darfur-only embargo benefits the RSF and its external backers by leaving existing arms-flow routes elsewhere in Sudan untouched, while Sudan’s army-backed government and Washington’s push for a nationwide ban lose ground on this vote.

Ethiopian sources, AFP and the Armed Conflict Location & Event Data Project (ACLED) reported that Eritrean reinforcements moved south through Adigrat toward the Wukro front in Tigray between 3 and 7 October, with a senior Ethiopian official telling Reuters that Eritrea deployed roughly four infantry and mechanized divisions.
