Terrorism & Counterterrorism

Terrorism remains one of the most complex challenges confronting states, societies, and the international system. This master’s-level course provides a critical and comparative examination of terrorism as a form of political violence and evaluates the strategies used to prevent and counter it.

Adopting a global International Relations perspective, the course incorporates regional case studies focused on Somalia and the Horn of Africa to connect theoretical frameworks with contemporary security realities. Students will explore conceptual definitions, historical developments, theories of causation, radicalization processes, organizational structures, media and technology, international counterterrorism frameworks, and policy evaluation.
